a conversation on Design, War and Responsibility

How do architecture and design respond to the realities of war? How can young architects and designers address destruction, threat and uncertainty — and can design become a tool for protection, solidarity and hope?

On 15 October 2026 at 7:00 PM, the Austrian Cultural Forum Berlin will host a panel discussion accompanying the exhibition “Design in Wartime.”

The discussion will feature two students participating in the exhibition, Anna Skytska and Panni Till, who will offer insights into their exhibited works and discuss the ideas, development and background of their projects.

“Design in Wartime” presents 19 projects by Ukrainian and Austrian architecture and design students from Lviv Polytechnic National University and TU Wien. The works address the spatial, social and cultural challenges of living through war, ranging from temporary shelters to new interpretations of urban infrastructure. At their core are questions of protection, community, resilience and hope.

🇺🇦🇦🇹 The exhibition is also rooted in more than 30 years of academic cooperation between Lviv Polytechnic and TU Wien. In the context of the ongoing war, this partnership provides an important space for professional exchange and for exploring the social responsibility of architecture and design, as well as possible futures for Ukrainian cities.

The project is supported by the Austrian Cooperation Office Lviv and Ukraine Office Austria at the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs.

The exhibition at the Austrian Cultural Forum Berlin is presented in cooperation with the Ukrainian Institute in Germany and remains open until 17 November 2026.
