book Presentation: Thin Ice
On 18 February 2026, Vienna will host a literary evening with Ukrainian writer, poet, and filmmaker Iryna Tsilyk. The event will take place at the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Austria and will bring together readers and audiences interested in contemporary Ukrainian literature, memory, and lived experiences of war.
The programme centres on the presentation of Thin Ice, a book that captures vulnerability, resilience, and attentiveness to everyday life under extraordinary circumstances. Through readings and conversation, the evening offers space for reflection and dialogue.
About the author
Iryna Tsilyk is a prominent voice in contemporary Ukrainian culture. She is the author of several poetry and prose works and an acclaimed filmmaker, best known internationally for her documentary “The Earth Is Blue Like an Orange”. Her work explores themes of memory, home, intimacy, and the endurance of human connection in times of war.
About the book
Thin Ice is a poetic reflection on life lived on the edge — between fear and hope, loss and love. The collection blends personal experience with collective trauma, creating a sensitive yet powerful testimony of the present moment. It is a book about fragility, attention, and the quiet strength of words.
