Discussion & Book Presentation

On November 4 at 18:00, the Honorary Consulate of Ukraine in Graz will host a talk with journalist and author Olha Volynska, dedicated to her new book “Art Against Artillery: Ukrainian Artists at War”. The event will explore cultural resistance, artistic resilience, and the vital role of creativity during Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Volynska’s book is a collection of interviews with contemporary Ukrainian artists working under the extreme conditions of war. The volume highlights how, amid destruction and danger, art becomes a powerful act of defiance. Through these personal stories, the author captures a broader picture of Ukraine’s cultural endurance — the fight not only for land and lives, but also for art, heritage, memory, and identity.
The event includes a conversation with Olha Volynska (in Ukrainian and German) and a contribution by graphic designer Mariia Norazian, who created the visual concept of the publication.Moderation: Paul Klingenberg
Interpretation: Harald Fleischmann
Welcome remarks: Andreas Wenninger (Ukraine Office Austria)
A small reception will follow.
