Discussion & Book Presentation

On 30 October at 19:00, the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Austria will host a discussion and presentation of “Art Against Artillery: Ukrainian Artists at War”, the latest book by journalist and author Olha Volynska. The event will highlight cultural resistance, the resilience of Ukrainian artists, and the role of culture during Russia’s full-scale invasion.

In her book, Volynska brings together interviews with Ukrainian artists who continue to create despite air raids, displacement, and loss. The collection offers a powerful portrait of art born in wartime — art that resists erasure, preserves memory, and asserts Ukrainian identity. Through personal testimonies, the author documents not only artistic practices but also the broader struggle for cultural survival and the protection of museums, monuments, and heritage under attack.

Speakers:
Olha Volynska (Ukrainian–German)
Oleksandra Saienko, cultural mediator and curator

Moderation: Paul Klingenberg

A small reception will follow the event.

Please note: due to the venue regulations, participants must register in advance and provide personal details to the diplomatic mission.
