The Haus für Poesie in Berlin presents a special reading and discussion devoted to two towering figures of Ukrainian literature: Taras Shevchenko and Mykola Chwylovyj.

This event combines reading and conversation to introduce audiences to the works and lives of:

• Taras Shevchenko (1814–1861), the foremost Ukrainian national poet whose writings remain central to Ukrainian identity;

• Mykola Chwylovyj (1893–1933), a leading voice of Ukrainian modernism whose creative life was shaped and cut short by repression.

The evening highlights poetic voices that continue to shape cultural self-assertion and collective memory.

The presentation is a joint collaboration of Haus für Poesie, Ukraine Office Austria at the Austrian Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, OeAD Kooperationsbüro Lwiw/Lemberg, Österreichisches Kulturforum Berlin, Wieser Verlag Klagenfurt, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv/Lemberg, and the Ukrainian Institute in Germany.
