ЗЕМЛЯ [EARTH] (USSR 1930; D: Oleksandr Dovzhenko)
The patriarchal Ukrainian village meets the tractor that points to the bright future - and the tragedy of the fight between the old and the new begins.
The film ZEMLYA by the Ukrainian director Oleksandr Dovzhenko (1894–1956) is considered a masterpiece of the Soviet film avant-garde and late silent film era. It was filmed in a real Ukrainian village with authentic villagers.
We are showing the version of the film from 1930, reconstructed by the Dovzhenko Center in Kyiv - with the complex music of the band DachaBracha.
