Russia’s warlike aggression against Ukraine has passed its second anniversary. Ukraine is often discussed in this context, but Ukrainians themselves rarely have a say.
The interview volume ›How War Changes Us‹ (2023) by journalist Olha Volynska closes this gap. The book is about personal stories that help to understand the cruel extent of the large-scale Russian invasion. In addition, it contains analyses that can offer new and perhaps unexpected insights into the background of the war. The Ukrainians are not shown as victims determined by others, but primarily as actively engaged people, with great empathy for the suffering of their fellow human beings and a high level of sensitivity when it comes to the awareness of injustice.
