Russia's military aggression against Ukraine marked its second anniversary. Ukraine is often discussed in this context, although Ukrainians themselves rarely have a say. The interview "How war changes us" (2023) by journalist Olga Volynska closes this gap. A book about personal stories that help to understand the brutal scale of the Russian invasion. It also contains analyzes that may offer new and perhaps unexpected insights into the war's background. As Nobel Peace Prize laureate Oleksandra Matviychuk says, a decisive battle is taking place between democracy and authoritarianism, which will determine the development of the world.
