“Art against Artillery” presentation in Graz

The second “Art against Artillery” discussion in Graz took place yesterday, and it was an exceptionally warm and meaningful evening. The hall of the Honorary Consulate of Ukraine was full — a clear sign that our work resonates, brings people together, and sparks important conversations about Ukrainian art in times of war.

Heartfelt thanks to Verlag Klingenberg for moderating, to speakers Donska and Mariya Norazyan for their powerful insights, and to Andreas Wenninger for the continued support and for joining us this time. It meant a lot to see members of Austria’s intellectual community eager to understand how Ukrainian culture is evolving under the pressures of a full-scale war.

The discussinon was about the erasure of cultural memory, Russia’s cultural looting, decolonization, and the formation of a renewed cultural identity. A significant part of the conversation focused on the Ukrainian avant-garde of the 1920s–30s — sincere thanks to Tetiana Pylypchuk, Taras Tomenko, and Mariya Donska for highlighting this period. The audience also heard poetry by Mykhailo Semenko and lyrics by Marjan Pyrig (Pyrozhok) in the original — something that, a year ago, felt almost unimaginable.

Next up: a discussion at Buch Wien and the book presentation in Lviv.
