Art as a Source of Resilience in Times of War
On June 2, the Traklhaus in Salzburg hosted the presentation of the German-language edition of “Art Against Artillery” by Ukrainian journalist and human rights advocate Olha Volynska.
Published by Verlag Klingenberg in Graz with the support of House of Europe and the European Commission, the book documents the lives and experiences of Ukrainian artists and cultural practitioners during the war. Through numerous interviews, it highlights stories of resilience, solidarity, and the vital role of culture in times of crisis.
The discussion also featured film director and cultural manager Anastasiia Larina and was moderated by journalist and philosopher Raffael Reithofer. The conversation explored the role of art during wartime, the importance of cultural identity, and the challenges faced by Ukrainian artists today.
At a time when Ukrainian culture itself is under attack, initiatives such as this help amplify Ukrainian voices and demonstrate the power of art as a form of resistance, memory, and hope.
