Presentation of the book “Art against Artillery” in Vienna
On 30 October 2025, the Embassy of Ukraine in Austria hosted the presentation of “Art against Artillery: Ukrainian Artists at War”, a new book by Ukrainian writer and journalist Olha Volynska, published by Klingenberg Verlag in Graz.
The book brings together a series of in-depth interviews with Ukrainian artists who continue to create in the midst of war. Through their voices, Volynska explores how artistic expression becomes a form of resistance, a means of preserving memory, and a space for processing collective trauma. The publication highlights that art remains a source of strength, dignity, and humanity — even in the darkest moments.
Olha Volynska is a writer, journalist, and researcher of contemporary Ukrainian art. Her work focuses on documenting cultural life during wartime and amplifying the stories of artists who persist in creating despite the threat of destruction.
The presentation was moderated by Paul Klingenberg, with Oleksandra Saienko, cultural manager, as the guest speaker. She shared her reflections on the role of art and cultural expression during wartime.
