Screening of the Film “Children in the Fire” in Vienna

On 25 February 2026, a screening of the Ukrainian documentary “Children in the Fire” by director Evgeny Afineevsky took place in Vienna as part of the European Film Festival, initiated by the Embassy of Ukraine in Austria.

The film tells the stories of Ukrainian children living through the devastating realities of Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine. Through their experiences, the documentary highlights both the tragic consequences of war and the resilience and courage of young people facing unimaginable challenges.

The event was opened by Oleksandr Irkhin, Minister-Counsellor of the Embassy of Ukraine in Austria, who emphasised the importance of documentary storytelling in conveying the human dimension of the war to international audiences.

Following the screening, the audience had the opportunity to engage in a discussion with the film’s director, Evgeny Afineevsky, asking questions about the making of the film, the experiences of the protagonists and the role of documentary cinema in times of war.

We sincerely thank everyone who joined the screening for their solidarity, support and warm atmosphere. Events like this remind us that the truth must be heard – and the stories of Ukrainian children must be told.
