Irrigation of the Desert (in Ukrainian)
This is a memory of when we were kings.
The first enemy bombs fall on an unnamed city in a modern European country without a declaration of war, and Europe abruptly wakes up from its safe sleep. People become “strangers to themselves,” and culture and science are gradually militarized and adapted to the needs of the newly created army. This time of unobvious changes is completely inappropriate for the ambitious archaeologist Thiel and his student Persephone, who are searching for the tomb of an ancient king in the middle of the desert. While they are excavating his burial place, their contemporaries, deaf to the voices of the dead, are digging trenches and new graves. However, the war is also raging in the relations of the seekers of antiquity themselves. After all, they seek not historical truth, but glory – that power over the world of words, thanks to which the victors rewrite the testimonies of the vanquished and engrave themselves in the palimpsest of history.
