Song of Songs (in Ukrainian)
Josef Burg (1912–2009) was a renowned Jewish author often referred to as “the last knight of Yiddish.” He wrote a number of finely crafted prose works including Above the Cheremosh (1939), Poison (1940), Life Goes On (1980), Echo of Times (1983), Belated Echo (1990), Two Worlds (1997), and Entangled Paths (1997), among others.
His name is known across many continents, and his stories, novellas, documentary essays, and articles have been widely translated and published around the world. In 1997, a Ukrainian-language collection of his writings titled Flowers and Tears was published. For his literary achievements, Burg received the Hersh Segal Prize (Israel) and the Theodor Kramer Prize (Austria). The book Song of Songs, published on the centenary of his birth, contains selected pieces of his fiction and essays.
