Forced Laborers in Pinzgau. Labor Relations During National Socialism. Life Stories (in Ukrainian)

Forced Laborers in Pinzgau. Labor Relations During National Socialism. Life Stories (in Ukrainian)

This documentary study by contemporary Austrian historian Alois Nussbaumer explores a wide range of issues related to the Nazis’ labor exploitation policies during World War II.

Drawing on archival sources, academic research, and testimonies from former forced laborers (including from Ukraine) as well as their "employers," the book examines how these policies were implemented in the Pinzgau region of Austria. It highlights the living and working conditions of Fremdarbeiter (foreign laborers), the organization of their leisure time and spaces, the discriminatory measures of the National Socialist regime, and the punishments imposed for various "offenses"—including so-called "sexual crimes." The book also traces the postwar lives of those affected by forced labor and considers how this dark chapter has been remembered in the region’s collective memory.
