Triumph of Beauty
He was born in Brody and died in Paris. He wrote about love, and almost all of his works are variations on this one topic.
His characters wander from work to work, and it may seem as if what we are reading is the posthumous notes of the Habsburg club. Reading Roth, one might think that the most ardent lovers are from Galicia or at least from Volyn. From Slovenia and the Czech Republic. From Vienna and, of course, from Paris. In any case, the most unlucky lovers, if Roth is to be believed, are from Central Europe. The novels, united by a common cover, are love stories. One is about stones, the other is about a woman, the third is about the homeland. These three novels are also united by betrayal. It is the other side of love. It gives love dynamism, creates intrigue, fills it with drama, and ends with tragedy.
