KulturPortrait: Elfriede Jelinek
On October 20th, the Austrian writer and feminist Elfriede Jelinek celebrates her 75th birthday! On this occasion, we are dedicating a new edition of KulturPortrait to this author.
Elfriede Jelinek writes novels, short stories, plays and even directs films. In 2004, Jelinek was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature for her "musical flow of voices and counter-voices in novels and plays that, with extraordinary linguistic zeal, reveal the absurdity of society's clichés and their subjugating power".
The author ruthlessly criticizes the political, social and sometimes family foundations of Austria. She relentlessly exposes unjust class and gender stereotypes and speaks out against xenophobia and violence.
We will talk about the life and work of Elfriede Jelinek to the literary translator Oleksandra Hryhorenko.
In 2015 she translated a collection of flesh dramas by the writer "Death and the Maiden" into Ukrainian.
The language of the event is Ukrainian. You can watch the programme on the Facebook-page of the ACF and on our YouTube-channel.
