on the occasion of the 155th anniversary of the birth of Lesya Ukrainka

We warmly invite you to a literary and musical evening dedicated to the 155th anniversary of the birth of Lesya Ukrainka, one of the most prominent figures of Ukrainian literature.

The programme will feature readings of her works, musical interpretations and artistic reflections that introduce European audiences to the depth and universality of her творчість. By combining literature, music and visual art, the evening creates a space for cultural dialogue and new interpretations of Ukrainian classics.

Lesya Ukrainka (1871–1913) was a poet, playwright, translator and intellectual whose work profoundly shaped modern Ukrainian literature. Her writings explore themes of freedom, dignity, resistance, cultural identity and the strength of the human spirit. Deeply engaged with European intellectual traditions, she integrated classical mythology, philosophy and political thought into her literary works.

Her writings have been translated into many languages, including German. Among her best-known works are:

  • Forest Song (Das Waldlied)

  • Cassandra (Kassandra)

  • The Boyarynya (Die Bojarin)

  • The Stone Host (Der steinerne Gast)

  • An Ancient Tale (Ein altes Märchen)

Even today, her works resonate strongly as reflections on freedom, resilience and cultural identity.
