End of the second week of the ISMJ 2026

Following the first module in Vienna, participants of the International School of Multimedia Journalism (ISMJ) 2026 continued their programme in Warsaw. Throughout the second week, students from Austria, Denmark and Ukraine worked in international teams, exploring the challenges of war reporting, information verification and disinformation in today's digital media landscape.

Under the theme “Reporting Wars: From the Frontline to the Timeline,” participants developed multimedia projects by conducting interviews, producing photo and video stories, verifying information and reflecting on the ethical responsibilities of journalists covering conflict.

Among the final projects presented were:
▪️ Framing the Frontline – analysing coverage of the war in Ukraine across Denmark, Germany and Poland;
▪️ Beyond the Headlines – exploring the ethical challenges of war reporting and the impact of continuous news consumption;
▪️ Whose RECponsibility? – examining media representations of Ukrainian women refugees in Poland;
▪️ Breathing the Air of War – investigating how art can help interpret and communicate the realities of war.

The programme also featured a lecture by Polish journalist Maciej Zakrocki, who shared his extensive experience covering political developments in Central and Eastern Europe. The week concluded with the public presentation of the students’ multimedia projects at the Austrian Cultural Forum Warsaw.

Founded in 2014 after the beginning of Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, ISMJ is a joint initiative of FHWien der WKW, the Ukrainian Catholic University, the Danish School of Media and Journalism, the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs, and the OeAD Cooperation Office Lviv. Although the second module was originally planned to take place in Lviv, it was once again hosted in Warsaw due to the ongoing war.

Congratulations to all participants on completing another inspiring week of learning, collaboration and international exchange. We look forward to seeing the impact of your future journalism.
