In prose imbued with elegy, the author constructs his intimate homeland from elements of crime romance and religious mysticism, utopia, political visions, and projects of both critique and idealization, simplicity and ambiguity. The leading poetics of the writing becomes the poetics of myth, parable, and legend, with the dominant setting and time of action being the Habsburg past.
