Sister, put on your wings! Women’s voices from Ukraine (in German)

Who knows Chaika Dniprova? Who knows the texts of Natalka Bilotserkivets? Or the works of Lesya Ukrainka, so well-known in Ukraine? Even Lina Kostenko and Oksana Sabuschko, both major names in Ukrainian contemporary literature, are virtually unknown in German-speaking countries. We owe it to Tanya Maljartschuk, the 2018 Bachmann Prize winner of Ukrainian descent, who lives in Vienna, that Ukrainian women's literature has become known to German-speaking readers. For many years now, publishers in German-speaking countries have been striving to publish Ukrainian literature. However, these are mostly male authors, not female authors, whose texts are published in German.
