Topography of Memory (in Ukrainian)
What is memory, and how far can it reach? Why did a total amnesia engulf everyone after the trials of Nazi regime criminals began?
What lies behind the photograph of elegant Jews from Vienna who were forced to clean the streets after the 1938 Anschluss? From memories of a carefree childhood through studies, travels, editorial assignments, to a meeting with his present self — the author guides us through his life, sharing joys and pains, the most precious moments. In small details, subtle gestures caught on camera, the author searches for traces of great history. Martin Pollack is an Austrian writer, journalist, and translator specializing in the history of Central and Eastern Europe.
