“Wahnsinnig liebe ich das Leben”

As part of the Leipzig Book Fair, a discussion will be held посвящена the new German-language edition of works by Mykola Khvylovy — a key figure of Ukrainian modernism.

The book “Wahnsinnig liebe ich das Leben” introduces German-speaking audiences to Khvylovy’s writings — a writer, public intellectual, and one of the leading voices shaping Ukrainian culture in the 1920s. His work combines literary innovation, political thought, and existential intensity, remaining highly relevant today.

The discussion will feature:

  • Alla Paslawska — professor of the Ivan Franko University Lviv, editor of the book

  • Ganna Gnedkowa — translator and curator working with Ukrainian literature internationally

  • Alois Woldan — Austrian Slavic studies scholar and professor, one of the leading experts on Ukrainian literature in Europe

Together, they will reflect on Khvylovy’s legacy, the challenges of translation, and the reception of Ukrainian modernism in the German-speaking world.
