Literary Evening with a Ukrainian Poet in Vienna
A literary evening with a Ukrainian writer and poet took place in Vienna, organised by the Austrian Society for Literature (Österreichische Gesellschaft für Literatur) with the support of the Austrian Cooperation Office in Lviv.
The event was made possible through the initiative of translator Stefa Ptashnyk, the collaboration with the Austrian literary community and the support of partner institutions. It created a space for meaningful dialogue about Ukrainian poetry, the experience of war and the role of culture in times of crisis.
The evening was moderated by renowned Austrian literary scholar and translator Cornelius Hell, whose long engagement with Central and Eastern European literature provided important historical and cultural context to the discussion about Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and its impact on contemporary Ukrainian culture.
Poems were read both in Ukrainian and German. The translations presented by Stefa Ptashnyk as well as by Claudia Dathe allowed the German-speaking audience to engage deeply with the emotional and artistic power of contemporary Ukrainian poetry.
We sincerely thank the author for the inspiring and thoughtful conversation and for sharing her work and reflections with the audience.
Our gratitude also goes to the Austrian Society for Literature, Stefa Ptashnyk, Cornelius Hell and all guests for their interest in Ukrainian culture and their continued support for Ukraine.
