Mykola Khvylovy at the Leipzig Book Fair

On March 20, 2026, a discussion dedicated to the new German-language edition of Mykola Khvylovy’s works took place as part of the Leipzig Book Fair — one of the key figures of Ukrainian modernism.

The discussion centered on the publication “Wahnsinnig liebe ich das Leben”, which introduces Khvylovy’s texts to a German-speaking audience and offers new perspectives on his intellectual radicalism, political thought, and existential depth. The speakers — Alla Paslawska, Ganna Gnedkova, and Alois Woldan — reflected on Khvylovy’s legacy, the challenges of translation, and the reception of Ukrainian modernism in Europe.

We sincerely thank the speakers for the insightful discussion, as well as the organizers for their continued commitment to promoting Ukrainian literature.

The Ukrainian programme at the Leipzig Book Fair once again demonstrated the growing presence of Ukrainian literature in the European cultural space. Discussions, presentations, and author talks created an important platform for international dialogue, translation, and exchange — particularly in the context of war and the rethinking of culture’s role.
